Job Requirements
The Vice President of Human Resources (VP, HR) at Baltimore Washington Medical Center is a senior HR executive who serves as a strategic partner, trusted advisor, and visible leader to team members across the hospital. This individual will operate within the UMMS shared services structure while ensuring strong local execution, alignment to BWMCs strategic goals, and a high-quality team member experience. The VP, HR provides leadership that drives organizational performance, cultivates a supportive and accountable culture, and advances workforce strategy in partnership with hospital and system leadership. This leader must be skilled at balancing system integration with local needs, providing clarity during periods of change, and maintaining a strong presence both inside the hospital and within the surrounding Glen Burnie community.
Primary Responsibilities The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification. They are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job responsibilities performed. - Serve as a strategic HR advisor and executive team member for assigned hospital(s)/member organization(s), supporting system and organizational strategy.
- Lead HR integration initiatives to ensure alignment with UMMS standards while supporting local operational needs.
- Partner with senior leaders to align workforce strategies with business objectives and proactively address people-related risks and opportunities.
- Balance systemwide HR policy consistency with flexible, responsive local HR practices.
- Drive continuous improvement in HR service delivery, quality, efficiency, and affordability within a shared services model.
- Provide strategic guidance on organizational design, governance structures, and leadership decision making.
- Build and sustain a high performing HR infrastructure that supports workforce planning, succession management, and leadership development.
- Oversee performance management, and workforce development strategies to ensure a capable and engaged workforce.
- Support the design and implementation of competitive, compliant compensation and benefits programs.
- Lead employee and labor relations strategy, fostering a culture of trust, engagement, and accountability.
- Guide organizational change efforts related to healthcare transformation, new care models, and system initiatives.
- Represent the organization as the senior HR leader on board committees and systemwide initiatives, as appropriate.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Work Experience
Required Skills - A successful track record of increasingly accountable experience in the human resources field.
- Experience in a multi-site business platform, operating in a number of diverse markets.
- A track record of success and change leadership, including demonstrable contributions to organizational restructuring, productivity improvements, and cultural transformation at both the system-wide and front-line levels.
- Strong functional expertise in all areas of human resources management, including talent acquisition, employee relations, organizational development and compensation and benefits system design and support.
Required Education - Masters degree with a concentration in Business, Human Resources, Organizational Psychology or Healthcare Administration.
- Seven or more years of Human Resources or related management experience
