<span style="font-family: Arial"><h2 style="text-align: center">Staff Veterinarian — Urgent Care</h2><h3 style="text-align: center">Veterinary Teaching Hospital</h3><br><h4>Job Summary</h4>The Staff Veterinarian (UCC) serves as the primary clinician for urgent care cases during assigned shifts, managing a wide range of non-critical but time-sensitive medical conditions in dogs and cats. The Staff Veterinarian will work closely with and report to the Service Head of the UCC Service to maintain coverage for the UCC Service. This role supports the hospital's mission of delivering high-quality, efficient, and client-centered care while contributing to the clinical training of veterinary students.<h4>Duties &amp; Responsibilities</h4><p>Patient Care and Case Management<br>• Serve as the primary clinician for Urgent Care cases during assigned shifts. <br>• Perform triage, diagnostics, treatment, and general case management for a broad spectrum of urgent (non-critical) conditions. <br>• Provide clear, compassionate, and efficient communication with clients, including discharge instructions and follow-up recommendations. <br>• Maintain accurate, timely, and thorough medical records in accordance with hospital standards. <br>• Contribute to efficient patient flow and a positive client experience within a high-throughput urgent care environment. </p><p>Clinical Education and Vet Student Supervision<br>• Contribute to the clinical education of veterinary students through case-based teaching, supervision, and discussion during clinical activities. </p><p>Professional Development, Collaboration, and Administrative Duties<br>• Participate in service-specific continuing education and training requirements to maintain clinical competency.<br>• Contribute to a positive, team-oriented work environment and foster inter-service communication and collaboration.<br>• Attend service meetings as required.</p><br><h4>Additional Physical Demands</h4>An environment of stress may be anticipated. The person in this position must be capable of reliably functioning in such an environment. The amount of physical exertion will vary with assignments. For example, the incumbent may be required to lift animals of 40 lbs. or more on and off examination tables or treatment surfaces. The handling of any animal presents some element of risk of injury. Considerable strength and caution are required when working with animals during diagnostic, treatment, or surgical procedures.<br><br>This position requires operating equipment, administering medications, and restraining animals of various species for examination and treatment. Exposure to anesthetic agents may present a potential hazard. The incumbent must be able to work in the presence of animal waste and biological fluids. Syringes, needles, and medications are potentially dangerous and must be handled with appropriate care.<br><br>Persons with allergies to animal dander, dust, pollen, hay, or related allergens may experience discomfort in this position. Work involving animals with various disease states may expose the individual to viral, bacterial, and fungal agents known to be transmissible to humans. Exposure to chemicals and anesthetic waste gases may be potentially hazardous if mishandled or misused. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn as required by hospital safety protocols.<br><br>This position requires the ability to perform clinical veterinary duties safely and effectively in a fast-paced urgent care environment, including examining and treating patients, handling and positioning animals, and collaborating with clinical staff. <br><br><br><h4>Minimum Qualifications</h4><p>• DVM or equivalent degree from an accredited veterinary college. </p><p>• Licensed (or eligible for licensure) to practice veterinary medicine in Illinois. </p><p>• Minimum of three years of clinical experience in small animal practice; experience in urgent care or emergency medicine preferred. </p><h4>Knowledge, Skills and Abilities</h4><p>• Strong clinical skills in general medicine and urgent care presentations, with an emphasis on practical, evidence-based decision-making.</p><p>• Ability to manage multiple cases efficiently while maintaining high standards of care and communication.</p><p>• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.</p><p>• Interest in and commitment to clinical teaching in a veterinary teaching hospital setting.</p><h4>Appointment Information</h4><p>This is a 100% full-time Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible.&nbsp;Thebudgeted salary range for the position is $115,000 to $130,000. Final salaryoffered will be determined by a thorough assessment of available market data,internal salary equity, candidate experience and qualifications, collectivebargaining agreements, and budget constraints.
